Our Purpose
St. John's Nursery School was established in 1966. It is our goal to help children reach their full potential. We strive to give each child affection, acceptance and approval, so that each child may develop emotionally, spiritually, physically, mentally and socially. We believe in nurturing children's self-esteem so they can grow confident and secure.
We are a Christian preschool, and we welcome families of all backgrounds. We do not instruct the children in particular religious doctrine, rather we aim to create a caring and accepting environment which will encourage the growth and development of each child.
Our Philosophy
At St. John's Nursery School, we believe that children learn best through play.
Play-based learning involves a wide range of
hands-on experiences including art, music, imaginative play, science experiments, gardening, cooking, construction, physical movement, problem solving and more. We value children being allowed to experiment in their own way, make mistakes and find new solutions.
Our teachers help the children extend their play and learning rather than direct it. The children are encouraged to share, take turns and solve problems through talking to each other. Our teachers take a very gentle and empathetic approach with the children; they help the children be more aware of themselves and their surroundings, and help them learn how to navigate social dynamics in a kind, friendly and mutually respectful way.
